“New Vision” is a self-help Association of Orphaned Youth in Bosnia Hercegovina which was formed so they could help each other become more self supporting and able to effectively transition from custodial care and life in an orphanage to a more full self-supporting, productive life.
New Vision now serves more than 20 youth aged 18 and older in their efforts interact with the larger community, and to find housing and jobs after they leave the orphanage. Its long-term goal is to serve the 100 youth in the country who, as a result of the past war, need this type of transitional assistance.
The major work of the association is managed by the youth themselves. The Association helps orphaned youth --who have reached the age of 18 and are, therefore, no longer eligible for state housing and maintenance in the Zenica orphanage and elsewhere --find work and housing. The Association is also dedicated to supporting and advocating for orphans by:
- Protecting Orphans Rights and Property
- Ensuring Social justice and health rights
- Organizing recreational and productive social activities for children in state orphanages
- Providing educational opportunity for orphans to complete schooling or obtain training in trades
This unique non-governmental association was formed by youth over the age of 18 who were actually living in an orphanage who were concerned for their lives and the lives of other children after 18. Of particular concern was post institutional housing for boys and girls who were expected to leave the orphanage at 18. Past assistance for New Vision came from USAID’s Orphan Support and Advocacy Project, America’s Development Foundation, World Vision, the Mayor and City of Zenica, the orphanage itself, international and local volunteers and donors.
The organization is now actively seeking local or international work opportunities and housing for its members. Please contact the office to learn about ways and means you can help youth get a ‘New Vision’.
